The My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Sacramento Collaborative is building on the strength of a community that is united around a common and critical goal: healthy development and successful futures for Sacramento’s young men of color.
To advance this goal, The Center awarded 10 Mentoring grants of up to $10,000 to Sacramento youth-focused nonprofit organizations that effectively impact boys and young men of color through mentoring efforts. These efforts use a social justice youth development framework that build capacity of the youth through mentoring and help shape the conditions of their environment — family, schools, neighborhoods and city.
Sacramento Healthy HeARTs and Minds
The Sacramento County Office of Education is collaborating with the City of Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture on a program that combines artists, community mentors and mental health specialists to assist students most affected by COVID-19 and related school closures. Called Sacramento Healthy HeARTs and Minds, the program uses the arts to help address mental health issues, trauma, absenteeism and other effects of the pandemic on already at-risk youth.
